Tips For Thinking Positive
We’ve heard it all before…. “think positive”. And it’s a popular concept, but a little cliche. However, the physical, emotional, and mental benefits of positive thinking can help you to improve self esteem by growing your confidence, improving your mood and your overall health. ——All of what I am saying sounds so good, but what does it really mean?
Positive thinking can mean many things such as the way you speak, or being an overall cheerful person. But it’s still ambiguous and if you want to be effective in thinking more positively, look at these examples below:
1) Start the day with positive affirmations: get your mind in the right place—especially when waking up in the morning— which can be a challenge. Starting a day off bad can completely ruin the way you think and feel. Let’s reframe this negative energy into positive by using affirmations. Affirmations are statements of things that you want to come true. Choosing to start your day off by feeding yourself positive and motivational thoughts is a sure way to lead to happiness. Before you know it, your negative thoughts will be less likely to appear, but when they do pop up you use your affirmations as a weapon to defeat them.
2) Focus on the things that make you happy: we all have challenging days and this is okay because we are not perfect. However, it’s what you do with that challenge that counts. We are in a pandemic and can’t go anywhere. Instead of thinking about all the places that you can’t go…focus on the new hobbies that you can create. For example bike riding is fun and a good way to learn more about yourself. Plus it’s a great social distancing activity.
3) Transform negative self-talk in positive self-talk: its easy to unconsciously speak negatively because it seems easier. You might think how awful you are at doing things or how you feel about self. These negative thoughts will turn into internalized feelings and then you start to have a clouded vision of yourself. Let’s stop this way of thinking and reframe those negative thoughts into positive ones. For example, I am not good at taking pictures becomes…”If I work on my poses and continue taking more pictures, I can be more comfortable in front of the camera”.
4) Spend time with positive people: this is a no brainer. There was a time that I met up with someone who was soo negative that I was traumatized and never want to encounter that person again. I don’t want you to go through that feeling. Please be careful who you spend time with. Surrounding yourself with people who speak positive can shape the way you think and make you feel good about yourself.
